Project Overview

Our client engaged us to support the development of a customized High Pressure Grinding Roll (HPGR) system by providing an expert design review and a comprehensive assembly plan. The objective was to validate that their current design aligned with a proven industry leading system, while incorporating components from multiple suppliers.

Scope of Work

Design Verification

We conducted a detailed evaluation of the client’s HPGR design package to confirm compatibility with the existing competitor system. This included:

  • Systematic review of all mechanical drawings and specifications

  • Identification of missing components, such as the cooling system, bolt assemblies, and grease covers

  • Verification of design consistency with the original ThyssenKrupp (TK) system

  • Cross-checking of bill of materials for completeness and accuracy

  • Validation of custom tyre integration

Engineering Assessment

Our team provided technical guidance to ensure all engineered components met required standards and tolerances. This included:

  • Fit-up analysis and tolerance verification

  • Structural alignment reviews

  • Recommendations for design improvements where discrepancies were identified

Assembly Planning

We developed a complete, step-by-step assembly procedure for the HPGR system, tailored to the client’s specific configuration. The deliverable included:

  • Detailed installation sequence

  • Required fit tolerances and bolt torque specifications

  • Lubrication requirements

  • Thermal installation procedures (heating and/or cooling for assembly fit)

Collaboration & Support

Given the complexity and scale of the project, we facilitated a collaborative process involving:

  • Ongoing technical meetings with the client’s engineering team

  • Onsite data transfer and review sessions

  • Coordination with multiple stakeholders to clarify scope and resolve design questions

Outcome

The project concluded with the successful delivery of a validated HPGR design and a practical, engineer-ready assembly plan. Our contributions supported the client’s ability to move confidently into fabrication and installation, knowing the design met both performance and integration requirements.
